My Lola was the first Filipino to import Bangus to the Bay Area. She was a pioneer who opened the first Filipino Market in Vallejo, California which resided on the corner of Sacramento St. and Louisiana St. She then opened a market in San Francisco on the corner of 8th and Howard St. My Grandma, Luisa G. Evangelista, sold many different items from food to merchandise that were imported from the Philippines. She catered to many locals who migrated to the US and those who enjoyed having a taste of the mother land in the Bay Area.
A Filipino Corner Market was my family's legacy.
It's time to continue the journey.
Instead of mass-producing items that might end up being wasteful and harmful to our planet, we manufacture SOME our merchandise only after it is ordered.
This way, we can reduce overproduction and minimize the negative impact on the environment.... |
